Elsewhere in Nyanza, politicians who lost out in the ODM nominations yesterday shifted alliances. There were protests in various constituencies where ‘winners’ were denied tickets. In Bonchari, Mr Charles Onyancha, who won the ODM nominations decamped to SDP after a loser, Mr Joram Keng’ocha, was given the ticket.
In Nyaribari Chache, Mr Chris Bichage also decamped to SDP after Dr Onsare Monda was given the ODM ticket. In Kitutu Chache, Mr Richard Onyonka decamped to Mr Kalonzo Musyoka’s ODM Kenya after losing the ODM nominations to Mr James Ongwae. Another ODM loser in the constituency, Mr Justus Mochoge, pulled out of the race while Mr Sam Osoro Kebati decamped to Mazingira party. Mr Julius Ogamba moved to KSC.
In Nyaribari Masaba, Prof Charles Mong’oni defected to ODM-K. And in Kitutu Masaba, Mr Nyambega Mose, who did not take part in the nominations because his name was missing from the ballot, was handed the ticket. Mr Timothy Bosire, who won the nominations, was denied the ticket.
Mr Amos Nyaribo who lost the ODM nominations in North Mugirango/Borabu moved to Kifagio Party of Kenya. Losers in Nyatike described the ODM nominations as a sham. They threatened to defect to other parties unless the rigged primaries were nullified and winners picked.
Accompanied by hundreds of their supporters, the politicians said it was sad that “ODM was now sacrificing the democracy it swore to promote when voted to power in December”. “There was absolutely no need to conduct nominations if the preferred candidates had already been picked. “Some of us resigned from our jobs and used all our savings in the campaigns,” said a parliamentary aspirant from Nyatike, Mr Elias Rateng.
